DENVER RUNNING GUIDE

From locals to visitors, we want to share good locations to run in the front range.

DENVER

WASH PARK

Washington Park is one of the most iconic places to run closer to downtown. It is a 2.6 mile loop of crushed gravel (with option to run on the paved road) with minimal crosswalks which makes it ideal for an easy run or a hard workout. Plus there are beautiful views of the city.

WATERTON CANYON

This is a must-see running, hiking, and fishing spot located south of Denver. You are running in a beautiful canyon the entire route. With 12.4 miles round-trip crushed dirt road, this is a great location to do a recovery run, long run, or workout. This is an out-and-back route, but be aware that the way out is slightly uphill and the way back is slightly downhill. Look out for mountain goats along the way!

HIGHLINE CANAL

The Highline Canal is a 71 mile trail weaving throughout the south and east suburbs of Denver. It is mostly crushed gravel (with some spots paved) and relatively flat. Depending on where you start, there could be a lot of road crossings so be careful. This is a great location to do a long run or fartlek workout. We suggest parking at either Writers Vista Park or near Brave Church.

CHERRY CREEK STATE PARK

There are many different routes to run here. Cherry Creek Reservoir Loop is an easy 4.4 miles. There is also a paved 9 mile reservoir loop that is great for workouts or a recovery run. Make sure to wear a hat or glasses because there isn't much shade here.

BOULDER

BOULDER RESERVOIR LOOP

The Boulder Reservoir loop trail is 5.25 miles of mostly graded dirt. It offers beautiful views of the mountains and is mostly flat along the reservoir and then hilly on the connecting road. If it's sunny, be sure to wear a hat or sunglasses because there shade is scarce along the path. Because there are no intersections, this is ideal for a workout but also convenient for a recovery run or long run.
